For being on par with this evolving technology, the present theme of this technozion being , transforming Ideas to Innovation is taken. This event takes you a step towards emerging wireless technology, where you can transform your ideas and grab top places with exciting goodies.

Witricity is based on the transmission of electric power, without the use of wires, by the use of resonant magnetic fields.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Participants have to transmit electricity wirelessly in two different ways

   1. Build a "Slayer Exciter" circuit such that  bulb glows  to  maximum possible wattage.

   2. Design two copper coils such that maximum power transfer takes place between them using the concept of magnetic resonant coupling. Electrical components like  resistors, inductors and capacitors can also be used.

ROUND 1:

This  round consists of written test where questions related to the present technology of wireless power transfer, basic electrical questions will be asked   and we would also  like to ask the participants on how they think the wireless technology will evolve in future in descriptive form. First round duration 45 mins -1 hr (duration)

ROUND 2:

In this round , participants should build a "Slayer Exciter" circuit powered by one 9V duracell battery. The circuit should be able to make the "Bulbs of different wattages"(for example 5W,8W etc) to glow when they are brought to the vicinity of the secondary coil. Modification of the circuit is allowed by using passive elements.

CFL bulbs will be provided.

This round depicts the basic  form of  tesla’s technology ,the one where it all started.

ROUND 3:

In this round,participants should resonate the coils in such a way that the 2 LEDs that are connected in series at the secondary coil should glow upto the maximum possible distance. Impedance matching of coils has to be done in order to resonate them at 40-40.5 kHz frequency  by addition of inductors and capacitors in series or parallel.Use of inductors or capacitors in this round is compulsory. This round depicts the present form of tesla’s technology.

Specifications:

Power Supply to primary coil: A standard function generator will be provided.

Source voltage: 20Volts peak to peak sine wave.

Supply frequency: 50Hz to 20 MHz

LED specifications: Red colour LED with forward current=50mA, forward voltage (vf):1.9V<Vf<2.3 V

 

Rules and Regulations:

Each team can consist of maximum of 3 members.

Any external power source is not allowed.

Judging Criteria :

ROUND 1 :

Marks will be given on the basis of number of questions correctly answered. All the participants who have participated in round 1 are eligible for round 2.

ROUND 2 :

The deciding factor in round 2 is the maximum wattage with which the bulb glows with the help  of  circuit  and several design aspects are also taken into consideration.

The aggregate   score of first and second rounds  is taken into account for qualifying into round 3.

The number of teams selected for third round is based on the number of participants.

ROUND 3 :

 Winners will be decided based on  the distance at which they can make  2 LEDs glow for the given specifications.

Q.Is there any restriction for size of the coils?

A:No,it can be of any size.

Q.Do we need to bring power supply?

A:No,the power is supplied by us using a function generator(20 volts peak to peak sine wave ) .

Q.Will you provide us with the components required like capacitors and inductors ?

A: No, you should come up with your own components.
